How should instruments be loaded into the pouch?

Instruments should be loaded so the handles point toward the opening (chevron seal end) to allow for safe grasping upon removal. The pouch should not be overfilled; leave about 3/4 inch of space around the instrument to ensure proper sealing and prevent punctures.

Do I still need to use internal indicator strips?

While pouches have external indicators, many guidelines (like CDC and AAMI) recommend placing a multi-parameter internal chemical indicator inside every pouch to verify that sterilant penetrated to the instruments themselves.

How long do instruments remain sterile in these pouches?

When properly sealed and stored in clean, dry, and low-dust environments, the medical paper and film barrier can maintain sterility for up to 5 years, provided the pouch is not compromised (torn, wet, or opened).
